"Coming to study to Kaunas was an opportunity and a challenge in one. Looking back after living here for more than three years makes me smile. Of course there were some obstacles to overcome but they are outweighed easily by the many international friends who have become my family. Abstract medical concepts have become clear thanks to the problem based learning approach applied at the University and the country has changed from "somewhere in eastern Europe" to a place worth living in."
Alan Bareiss, Medicine (Germany)

"I believe that the LSMU has made me a more confident and independent individual. It has opened the doors that I had never thought could be accessed. Most importantly, I'm in love with what I'm studying right now. There is a lot of practical experience as well as many placement opportunities especially for me, a Sri Lankan. Because graduating with a European degree allows me to work not only in my country but also in Europe. Finally, the most important thing for me about the University is the chance to grow as a person as well as develop academically."
Ann Rameshkumar, Medicine (Sri Lanka)

"The LSMU has changed my life completely. I am forever grateful to this university for giving me a chance to study veterinary medicine and making my childhood dream come to life. When the time came to move to Kaunas, it felt natural for me to begin a new chapter of my life here. I accepted my offer in a heartbeat and I have never looked back on my decision.
My time here can be compared to a rollercoaster as there have been many ups and downs along the way, some bigger than the others, but through this, I have grown so much as a person and have met incredible people from all over the world and bonded with amazing friends who share the same passions as me. What I appreciate about my studies here is that the study groups are small and the professors are always trying to help you as much as possible. Acquiring a Veterinary Medicine degree in Kaunas gives me numerous opportunities to work abroad in the future and to get necessary contacts with international colleagues for future networking."
Alina Pugatcheva, Veterinary Medicine (Finland)

"Studying at the LSMU is a great experience. The University provides tools necessary to develop skills and obtain knowledge in various areas in life. Students have their own voice in the educational process and professors are nice and friendly. Being an international student gives me the possibility to meet people from all around the world, learn about their culture, traditions and way of life."
Dominika Pomykala, Odontology (Poland)

"As a medical student with very medical background I find LSMU being a very inspiring university, not only due to its teaching system but also due to the opportunities it provides. The university has a wide access to resources, hands-on training and many opportunities for me to learn as much as I need, it has helped me understand myself better and equipped me with all the knowledge I need to become a great Medical Doctor in the nearby future."

LSMU Physiotherapy Student Snapshot

Alberto Ordoñez Cordoba, from Valencia, Spain

img-20210422-wa0002.jpeg (376x240, 135x240)My name is Alberto Ordoñez Cordoba, I am from Valencia, Spain and I am studying Physiotherapy at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) for the exchange semester. I have always been a sporty guy who has been playing football since I was five years old. During this period, I have had a lot of injuries: sprains, strains, fractures, etc. So, the physiotherapist of my team tried to convince me to study Physiotherapy.

I chose LSMU because this University allowed me to do my practical training at „Kauno klinikos“. The first week here was a bit strange to me because I needed to get used to a lot of new things like the language or the way of working, but once I got used to it everything was perfect.

During my exchange period, I learned a lot of things: new techniques, new exercises, new methods of working, how to work with specific pathologies, etc. but the best lesson for me was understanding how to deal with patients and the need of giving the patients the best treatment.

I’m a person for whom the integration process is easy. Of course, I need a period of accommodation, but for me, it’s just one week. I’m a person who always tries to have everything under control, so I try to adapt myself to new changes as soon as possible. Having friends here has helped me a lot too.

I liked Kaunas more than I expected to like it. It’s a city that has everything: public means of transport, a good healthcare system, shops, own culture, places to go etc. People usually say that the weather is not good, but I disagree. I like cold weather and for me, it was an important decision to come here.

Despite the situation we are immersed in, I have travelled to Klaipėda, Palanga, Vilnius, Druskininkai, Jonava, Trakai, etc. There are lots of lakes and churches in the country. I am spending my time focusing on my studies, but at the same time, I am trying to find time to go out, travel and meet new people every opportunity I get.
