Library Rules and Regulations

Rules for using reading rooms:

  • The documents located in reading rooms (textbooks, scientific publications, information publications, art publications, visual and sound documents, periodic journals, manuscripts, old and rare documents ) can be used only locally;
  • It is allowed to bring documents to other reading rooms only by permission of the librarian of the reading room;
  • It is forbidden to eat or drink, leave garbage;
  • It is forbidden to move anatomy models to other floors;
  • It is forbidden to move furniture (chairs) to other areas;
  • The documents ordered from repositories to reading rooms, are not borrowed to home;
  • The documents of reading rooms, marked with special mark, are delivered to home for set term;
  • If a document is not returned on time, the user gets charged 0,14 Eur each day for each document;
  • It is obligatory to follow the rules of behaviour in public places in library reading rooms and maintain silence;
  • The readers, who try to appropriate or damage the books, lose the right to use library. The information about such misbehaviour is given to the deans of faculties or work supervisors.

Delivery of publications in delivery room:

  • The documents (printings, CD and others) are lent only for university students who have library cards; employees, who have employee cards or personal identity cards and for temporary users, who are registered by letter of indemnity.
  • Information concerning your order progress can be viewed on electronic catalogue “hold requests” field or inquired about at the circulation desk.
  • Ordered documents are kept for 2 days.
  • It is allowed to take out the documents from open funds only after registering their delivery on self-service computer or at librarian.
  • When ordering from repositories not more than five units of documents are delivered, and from the open funds – the amount is not limited
  • The terms for returning documents are set considering the amount of documents’ copies, demand, studying programme. It is possible to extend them up to 200 days via the internet, if it hasn’t been ordered by other students. Return date for documents marked with green stickers can be extended up to 60 days. The due date is printed on a receipt at the self-service machine or the user can check it on the electronic catalogue.
  • If a document is not returned on time, the user gets charged 0,14 Eur each day for each document. If you fines total more than 12 Eur limit, you will need to come in to the Library and settle the fines before you can borrow documents.

Rules for using and reserving group study rooms:

For learning purposes, group study rooms are reserved only for the LSMU academic community.

  • Reservations are made through the Group Study Room Reservation System or by scanning a QR code in the group study rooms. Login: LSMU information systems username and password;
  • Group study rooms are reserved from 8:00 to 21:30 for a period of 2 academic hours once a day for the same group of at least 5 people;
  • Rooms reserved for group studying:
Eivenių g. 6 – conference room No. 305 accommodating up to 10 persons, group study rooms No. 404, 406, 407 - accommodating up to 20 persons each;
Tilžės g.18 - group study rooms No.1, 2, 3 accommodating 6 persons each, no. 4 and seminar room - accommodating up to 8 persons;

  • It is possible to make a reservation for a group study room no earlier than 3 days in advance;
  • When making a reservation, you must select the room in which you plan to study, indicate the faculty, course, group (e.g. MF II 3 gr.) and the number of people;
  • If necessary, you can order a computer and a projector by activating the link Add;
  • Accessories (computers/projectors) are issued and accepted by library staff;
  • When group study rooms are not reserved, they are available to users without prior reservation;
  • Reservations may be canceled for users who do not follow the rules.

Using computers:

  • Computers in the computer classroom can be used by community members of the university.
  • Library computers are used for the internet, medicine databases, library’s electronic catalogue and medicine data bases in laser disks (CD-ROM).
  • Computers in multimedia classroom are designed for CD, DVD and sound files review.
  • Wireless internet connection functions in the library, it is possible to use laptop computers in the library.
  • Computers and their accessories for readers to borrow are allowed to use only in the library.
  • Computers and their accessories, which have been lent must be returned on the current day and not any later than 1,5 hours till the library closing time.
  • Personal files and documents cannot be saved.
  • It is forbidden to change the passwords.
  • It is forbidden to delete files, to install programs, to change configuration of the programmes.
  • Do not turn off computer after finishing your work.

Attention! When entering documents, created in Microsoft Word (2007) , please pay attention to suggested formats (Save as), choose the format most acceptable to you. Previous versions of Microsoft Office Word do not accept  “.docx“ format.

 

The instructions for making literature list (Vancouver System):

  • When preparing articles to the journals of biomedicine sciences, follow general requirements of writing;
  • (“Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical Publication“, updated October 2004);
  • If you wish to make literature list in medicine publications follow Vancouver System;
  • It is not advisable to cite hardly accesible sources, verbal notices, manuscripts;
  • It is recommended to cite publications of the last five years (except fundamental publications);
  • Bibliographical entries are situated by citation range in the list or by alphabetical order of authors‘ surnames in larger bibliographical lists;
  • The line of the author line or the first word of the title (if it is described starting from title) can be picked out;
  • To indicate up to 6 authors in author line. If there are 7 authors and more – there are indicated 6 preceding authors with abbreviation “et al“;
  • When indicating a source, to use abbreviations (for example, JAMA, Am Heart J, Obstet Gynecol).
