Information for LSMU students about Distance learning from 30 March, 2020
Starting from 30 March, 2020, studies will be carried out remotely through the already tested and verified Moodle platform and MS Office Teams application. Other communication software may be used if necessary or in case of technical faults. Distance learning will be carried out until the end of quarantine in Lithuania.
Presently, a part of the courses that can be completed remotely has been planned. We will announce times for contact learning and practical classes at the University, as well as the scheduled exams, when the emergency situation in Lithuania improves.
Due to the uncertain epidemiological situation, we are currently unable to plan the end of the academic year; however, now, the University is considering an optimistic option to end the academic year on 30 June 2020.
It has been planned that during the scheduled Spring (Easter) holidays, on 14-19 April, the studies will be conducted according to the updated study timetable. The semester’s debt week will take place on 1-7 July.
If you do not complete practical part of learning this academic year, a part of it may be transferred to the next academic year.
Information about studies will be delivered via LSMU email and announced via LSMUSIS study timetables, therefore, it is very important to have active logins to LSMUSIS and regularly check for updates.
ACADEMIC INFORMATION ABOUT DISTANCE LEARNING
Information about the organisation of spring semester 2019/2020:
- Distance learning will be performed during before planned period of Spring Holidays (14-19 April).
- Spring semester will end on 30 June.
- Spring semester’s academic debt week will be on 1-7 July, 2020.
- Academic year academic debt week will be on 25-31 August, 2020.
DISTANCE LEARNING TIMETABLES
In order to join distance learning successfully, you will need:
- Reliable Internet connection;
- A computer or a tablet (it is recommended to have a backup device if possible)
- Headphones;
- External microphone (if not integrated in your device);
- Cameras (if instructed so by the lecturer);

The study timetable will divide the classes into two types:
- remote (asynchronous) sessions, i.e., classes when a direct contact with the lecturer is not involved; the lecturer will be available to answer any questions related to the specific session within 48 hours;
- live streaming (synchronous) sessions, i.e., classes when a lecturer gives a lecture, conducts tutorials or other activities for students and is available during the online class.

What is distance learning?
What is distance learning?
This is a learning method that uses a virtual learning environment, where lecturers provide students/listeners with specific study information, leaning material packages, mid-term assignments, examinations, organize contact distance learning sessions and other learning activities.
What is distance education/learning?
This is a consistent, individual or group education/learning, with distance and/or time between learners and the lecturer, while communication and cooperation, learning materials are provided via information and communication technologies.
What is remote contact work time?
This is the time when students interact with the lecturer in a synchronous (classes take place directly communicating with the lecturer) or asynchronous way (indirect liaison with the lecturer) by means of digital technologies. In distance learning, the time given for contact work is used in a distance learning environment.
What is the form of taking tests/exams during distance learning?
Intermediate or final tests, or if needed, exams can be conducted remotely per one login session. If during the test a student has disconnected for technical faults, he/she has a right to repeat the test once more according to the set procedure of the department.
What if I miss a synchronous class?
If a student has missed a synchronous class, he/she has a possibility to conveniently review the record and must report according to the set procedure of the department (participation in synchronous (live broadcast) classes, tutored activities or practice works is mandatory).
