Updates related to Covid-19

In line with the recommendations approved by the European Council, at its meeting on Wednesday (21 October) the Government decided on the criteria to be applied at the national level, based on which all the countries of the European Union would be divided into four groups according to the traffic light principle. Based on the criteria, when assessing the European Union countries, they will be classified into four groups according to colours green, yellow, red, and grey.

Note: Isolation and Covid-19 test are not mandatory if arrival from Latvia, Norway and Finland, as well as from the Canary Islands.

Under the new rules, if arrivals present a negative Covid-19 test taken no earlier than 48 hours before departing to Lithuania – or a test taken once in Lithuania – they will no longer be required to self-isolate for 10 days. More information here….

Moreover, every traveler returning to or arriving in Lithuania by regular, special or charter flights by air, sea or land will have to submit their personal data to the specialists of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC) electronically.

This means that before boarding a plane, ferry, bus, or train, a person will have to fill in a form on the NVSC website and present the confirmation received – the so-called QR code – at the time of boarding the chosen means of transportation.

All foreigners arriving from the affected countries must have a coronavirus test performed max. 48 hours prior to arrival in Lithuania and a negative response received, apart from the exceptions provided for in the decision of the Operations Manager. A negative test result does not release one from the obligation to self-isolate for 10 days.

Third countries (non-EEA countries) that are not included in the ECDC maps and are therefore included in the gray area are also considered to be affected by coronavirus infection. The exemption applies to countries included in the list of third countries established at the European Union level, whose population should not be subject to temporary restrictions on crossing of external borders for the purpose of unnecessary travel to the EU.

STEP 1: MANDATORY RETURN REGISTRATION

Please fill in the form very responsibly (after that when you booked your flight to Lithuania), as all the data you provide will be used to ensure your successful arrival in Lithuania. Your information may also be transferred to Lithuanian institutions responsible for returning of foreign citizens. We also wish to inform you that in mid-August, the government will consider a nationwide student exemption. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have to make sure you are safe and ready to start your studies following Rector’s order which was emailed to your university email.

NOTE:

• Registration to studies is mandatory within 48 hours after arrival to Lithuania!
• If register before arriving at the University, your registration will be deleted automatically.
• If you are from Covid-19 affected country, you must provide a negative Covid-19 test result, if you don't provide it, your registration will be deleted automatically.

ISOLATION RULES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ARRIVING/RETURNING TO STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY FROM HIGHLY AFFECTED COUNTRIES

• Since you’re are self-isolating, you must strictly follow the rules listed below.
• You should travel to your isolation place in Kaunas by various means of transportation except for public transport.
• During the self-isolation period, you should always be accessible by phone or email.
• Do not leave the place of isolation without the permission of a health care professional;
• Do not invite guests (visitors) at home;
• Follow the instructions of the health care professional;
• Please obtain food, medications, or any other necessary items remotely, or ask other people (e.g. friends, etc.), who do not have to stay in isolation, to get them for you.
• Measure your body temperature daily and monitor your health and symptoms like cough and difficulty breathing;
• In case of your health deterioration, or if you notice symptoms of acute respiratory tract infection (if you have any rapidly developing symptoms: fever, cough, difficulty breathing), you must call the helpline 1808;
• Provide all the necessary information to the National Public Health Center professional, administering the epidemiological diagnostics of coronavirus infection: https://keleiviams.nvsc.lt/en/form.
• If you’re diagnosed with Covid-19, you must immediately inform the International Office by email: return2020@lsmuni.lt or by phone: +370 652 90747; +370 67180131.
• Shortness of breath may often be provoked by psychological reasons. If you feel overwhelmed with the situation you can contact LSMU psychologists for international students via video call. Just register in advance by e-mail: Jevgenij jevgenij.razgulin@lsmuni.lt or Rūta ruta.lingyte@lsmuni.lt
• The University shall not provide any services to the visitors with symptoms of acute upper respiratory infection (e.g. fever, runny nose, cough, difficulty in breathing, etc.) and visitors coming from the highly affected countries* for 14 days after arrival.
• It is necessary to ensure the maintenance of the environment and hygiene requirements:
  • There is no need to wear a mask at home if you do not feel any symptoms of the disease. It is necessary to wear the medical mask in case you demonstrate upper respiratory infection symptoms, such as cough, sneezing, and you need to call the ambulance and go to the hospital;
  • Wash your hands with soap and water. If there is no possibility to wash your hands, you can use alcohol-based hand sanitizer (alcohol-based hand disinfectant/antiseptic). You need to wash hands before cooking and afterward, before meals, after using the lavatory, and when your hands are dirty;
  • Please maintain coughing-sneezing etiquette: cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, when coughing or sneezing; dispose of the tissue to the trash bin. If you do not have a tissue, when sneezing or coughing, cover your mouth with an elbow, not your palm;
  • Ventilate the room at least 2-3 times a day (fully open the windows for 10 min. or make a draught for several minutes. During such ventilation, there should be no people in the room);
  • Clean the most touched surfaces in the room daily, e.g., night tables, bed handles, and other bedroom furniture. Clean with a usual soap or cleaning liquid;
  • Use separate linen, utensils, etc.;
  • Wash your clothes with the usual detergent at the temperature 60-90℃;
  • Wash the dishes with hot water and the usual soap or use a dishwasher.
