Young people from Ireland are looking forward to Studies at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences
On May 7, 2019, two representatives of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU), Head of International Partnerships Division Gintarė Diliūnienė and International Program Coordinator Rūta Antanaitienė conducted an entrance exam session at The Dublin International Foundation College (DIFC). Thirteen young people, who are currently enrolled in the foundation program at the DIFC, had applied to study at the LSMU and were invited to sit the entrance test. Regrettably not all applicants were adequately prepared and did not have enough knowledge to pass the test successfully – only six applicants received high enough scores and, having passed an interview, were offered the opportunity to study Medicine and Odontology at the LSMU. After the examination, the University representatives and the DIFC staff had a discussion on future steps for admission procedures, as well as the signing of the study contract, the procedure of applying for a Lithuanian visa, and other practical issues.
The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences has been successfully cooperating with The Dublin International Foundation College (DIFC) for several years. The college has a one year study program for students from countries outside the EU which helps them to reach the education level needed for applying to major European universities. The LSMU held a presentation on their study programs taught in the English language during the Study Fair which was held by DIFC in Dublin in February, 2019. As a result, many DIFC students have since chosen to study Medicine and Odontology at the LSMU and have submitted their online applications.
Our University has a long-standing relationship of cooperation with the Lithuanian Embassy in Ireland. On May 8, Lithuanian Ambassador Egidijus Meilūnas received the LMSU representatives Rūta Antanaitienė and Gintarė Diliūnienė and discussed with them some current issues of cooperation in the fields of studies, scientific activities and clinical practice. His Excellency Egidijus Meilūnas noted that Ireland devotes much attention and funds to its health care system as well as active scientific research, especially in biosciences. For a number of years, with active participation of the Lithuanian Ministry of Health, close ties have been developing between Irish and Lithuanian health care institutions.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Lithuanian Embassy in Ireland for offering an opportunity to the local young people interested in Medical studies in Lithuania to meet with the representatives of the LMSU who held a presentation on the study program and answered all their pertinent questions. The representatives also conducted an entrance examination on the spot. We are pleased to note that applicants passed the exam showing good results and were offered openings for medical studies at the LSMU. We are also glad that two Irish Lithuanian girls will begin their studies in English at our University‘s Medical and Pharmacy Faculties in September.
