This is my second home
They say, 'Home is where your heart is'. Well, that has been my case too. I call this place my 'second home'. This is Sini Saju, a medical student graduating from LUHS. Well, to begin, this country has given me more than I could have asked for. I arrived in Kaunas on a cold October morning not knowing what is waiting for me in this heart of Europe.
My first step into my second home was embraced by a warm group of Lithuanian nationals. Their heart felt smiles, enthusiasm, warm conversations and love have till this day left a footprint in the journey of my life. What impressed me about the people here is their naivety-pure and non-tampered curiosity for everything life has to offer, whether it is relationships, knowledge, education or technology.
I personally love potatoes and if you are one such kind, Lithuania has to offer a cuisine right from the heart of cultural 'home-cooking'. Kaunas is the place that has not given me a technicality of life but is full of simplicity and beauty where I enjoy freedom to savor my 20's.
For those interested in exploring this land and its heritage, Trakai, Nida, Birstonas, the UNESCO world heritage site at Kernave and Vilnius old town are my strong recommendations. The white winters, orange autumns, wonderfully-painted springs and summers make this place one of the most beautiful places I have seen in my life.
With regard to studies, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences has helped me to discover the medical world on self-dependant level. The professors, teaching staff, hospital facilities and library are organized well enough to provide a student with a support that he/she needs in order to achieve their medical degree at high standards. In my opinion, the fact of the increasing pool of European students applying at this university speaks for itself.
I have been living in LUHS dormitory for 4 years now and I have to say that this dorm is even closer to my heart than my own home. From bathroom to kitchen facilities, the authorities have taken care to provide most equipped convenience. This dorm is the best place to make close connections. Over these few years I established strong connections with the network of both nationals and internationals. I could write pages about this beautiful place but I'd like to end with a note that Lithuania is a place worth exploring European culture, beauty, traditions, cuisine and climate. I will miss this lovely place.
