On 6 November, the Lithuanian University of Health Science (LSMU) had a historical celebration of the 25th anniversary of international studies. Professors, students and honourable guests gathered in Kaunas State Drama Theatre where the biggest celebration in all 25 years was held. The first international students came to study from Lebanon in 1990, and since then the number of international students has been increasing every year. Today the University hosts more than 600 international full-time students from 48 countries from all over the world. Honourable guests such as Mrs. Saulė Mačiukaitė-Žvinienė, the adviser to the President of the Republic of Lithuania; Mr. Amir Maimon, the Israeli ambassador to Lithuania; members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania as well as rectors, deans and professors from other Lithuanian universities participated in this event.
However, LSMU international students were considered the most important guests. All the guests had an opportunity to hear piano music while enjoying the gallery of the University historical documents important to the development of international studies at LSMU. Later all the guests were invited to the theatre hall where the ceremony started. Between congratulations and short movies about LSMU historical moments, people could hear well-known compositions performed by Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra, LSMU choir ‘Neris’ and international students’ choir ‘Kebapella’. According to the University’s academic community, this anniversary is one of the most important events for the International Relations and Study Centre and the University within 25 years.
