KIMSU’S International Food Festival

2015-11-23

In honour of the 25th anniversary of welcoming international students at LSMU, Kaunas International Medical Student Union (KIMSU) decided to celebrate and to do so in style. Of course there was just one way to do it – with lots of food!  The members of the KIMSU charity committee, headed by Nuria Wülfinghoff, got together and held the International Food Festival  in the Pharmacy building on Eivenių 4 on 4 November 2015.

More than 30 students volunteered to make the event a huge success. Students showcased their culinary skills as they cooked food from their native areas and brought it for everyone to taste. Students who were not confident cooking contributed by buying necessary items for the event. It was definitely a way for students to de-stress during this exam period, as they engaged in an evening of fun, food and culture. Loreta Alešiūnaitė, the teacher of the Lithuanian language at LSMU, attended the event.

Tania Varghese, a volunteer at the event, said, “We are presenting 22 different countries today. I was happy that LSMU got an opportunity to experience an element of my culture in the form of food. Almost everybody who cooked is even willing to do it again!”

Students came to the state-of-the-art Pharmacy institute to indulge in a feast, both for the eyes and the stomach.  “It is my first food festival, and it is definitely nice experience. Everything is well organised and the food is so tasty!” said Hytham Dafalla, who was attending the event.

And all this for a very good cause – charity. The event, which gained significant support from people of all backgrounds, raised a sum over 400 euros. All the proceedings will be used solely for charitable deeds.
