LSMU – Among 229 Leading Foreign Universities in Kazakhstan
On 13–16 October, Gintarė Diliūnienė and Kęstutis Gasevičius, international programme coordinators at LSMU International Relations and Study Centre, visited partner institutions in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan. The University’s representatives participated in the pre-planned meetings and represented LSMU at the conference-exhibition, organized by the International Programs Centre, Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which administers international President’s scholarships ‘Bolashak’.
Further plans for cooperation were discussed with the representatives of National Medical Holding, National Scientific Centre of Oncology and Transplantation, National Centre of Neurosurgery, Republican Children's Rehabilitation Centre, Medical Technology and Information Systems Centre, and National Centre of Medical Studies. The LSMU partners were particularly interested in the new opportunities for cooperation and praised the work of University’s lecturers, visiting Kazakhstan and conducting seminars as well as providing masterclasses and practical leadership (mentoring) activities, and admitted the quality of training courses at the LSMU Hospital Kauno Klinikos.
On 16 October, at the international Bolashak Alumni Reunion Conference and Education Fair 2015 (BARCEF - 2015), the LSMU coordinators had an opportunity to present the study and training programmes, and to discuss the issues of cooperation. The members of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Minister of Education and Science, more than 20 experts in the field of education and more than 20 Kazakh and 40 foreign universities – ‘Bolashak’ programme partners, attended this event.
After the visit of Mr. Gani Nygymetov, President of the International Programs Centre, in 2014, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences was included in the list of the 229 leading foreign universities from 23 countries, used by ‘Bolashak’ scholarship winners when choosing an institution for internship or PhD studies. Currently, two doctors from Kazakhstan are being trained in the Clinic of Cardiology and the Clinic of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery under the ‘Bolashak’ programme. Since 2012, 16 trainees from Kazakhstan have already taken the advantage of this programme at LSMU.
