Study Abroad Fair and Entrance Examination in Dublin

On 19-22 March, international programme coordinators Rūta Antanaitienė, Milda Mankelevičienė and Jurgita Grigienė, the representative of the International Relations and Study Centre at LSMU, participated in the study abroad fair in Dublin as well as organised the presentation of LSMU study programmes and an entrance examination for candidates wishing to study at LSMU.

This business trip aimed at undertaking the main two tasks: to present studies at LSMU in the study abroad fair and educational institutions in Ireland as well as to organise an entrance examination for those who have applied for studies at LSMU for the academic year 2015-2016. ‘The Student World Fair’ was accomplished by organizers in two stages: the first day was devoted to seminars for career advisors at secondary schools and during the second day, the study abroad fair for pupils and their parents was held. During both seminars and the study abroad fair, biomedical sciences in Lithuania were of great interest; career advisors at schools and participants of the fair asked numerous questions about possibilities to study at LSMU, admission requirements and deadlines to submit all the documents needed.

International programme coordinator Rūta Antanaitienė visited the Lithuanian school ‘4 Vejai’, where on Saturdays pupils are taught the Lithuanian language and are introduced to Lithuanian traditions, national holidays and folklore. During the visit, possibilities to be enrolled into LSMU programmes in the field of biomedical sciences were presented. Pupils were very interested in studies at LSMU both in the English and Lithuanian languages.

LSMU International Relations and Study Centre collaborates with Dublin International Foundation College (DIFC), which delivers internationally recognised courses for prospective students to enter a university in the United Kingdom and other European countries. While visiting this college, the coordinators discussed guidelines for further cooperation, met with the DIFC students, briefly introduced studies at LSMU and invited those who are interested in studies at LSMU to sit the entrance examination in Dublin.   

A total of 8 candidates from Ireland sat an entrance examination; among them, there were candidates who applied for studies at LSMU via the Internet and Malaysian students still enrolled on courses delivered by DIFC. The entrance examination was successfully passed by 6 candidates who were invited to study at LSMU. The other two were recommended to improve their knowledge and to go to university next year. After the entrance examination, the presentation about the University and Lithuania was given, and prospective students as well as their parents were answered all the questions related to studies and practical arrangements.

A visit to the Lithuanian Embassy abroad has become a nice tradition. The LSMU coordinators were welcomed by Mrs. Rasa Adomaitienė, Lithuanian Ambassador to Ireland, and Counsellor Mrs. Audronė Markevičienė. During this visit, future cooperation between the University and the Embassy in order to attract more children of the Irish and Lithuanians, working and living in Ireland, for studies at LSMU both in English and Lithuanian was discussed.
