2015-05-25

Mr. Amir Maimon, Israeli ambassador in Lithuania, visited the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) on 21 May. The guest was greeted in the LSMU Library by LSMU Rector Prof. Habil. Dr. Remigijus Žaliūnas, Managing Director of Kaunas Clinics Prof. Habil. Dr. Renaldas Jurkevičius, Dean of LSMU International Relations and Studies Centre Prof. Žilvinas Padaiga, Prof. Habil. Dr. Angelija Valančiūtė, and Director of Kaunas Clinics for Public Health, Science and Studies Prof. Lina Jaruševičienė.

The foundation history of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and Kaunas Clinics, and study programmes were introduced during the meeting. The clinical and research practices were discussed. When Prof. Ž. Padaiga was talking about the Israeli students, he stressed that the mandatory military service has big influence on their way of thinking – such young people know firmly what they want from life and endeavor at their goals actively. The professors were glad that the international students do not simply study hard, but also spend their free time taking care about orphans and organizing various charity events.

Mr. A. Maimon wanted to know the secret of LSMU, why it is chosen by so many young people from Israel for their studies. He was interested in future career opportunities of Israeli who graduate from LSMU in Lithuania, Israel and other countries. Besides, he learnt that the international students are really well taken care of at our University: they can refer to the psychologist providing services free of charge at any time, and they have mentors assisting them. In case of any problems with studies, LSMU representatives go to Israel to meet the parents of these young people and attempt to solve the problem together.

After the official part of the meeting, the LSMU students from Israel also came to meet Mr. Amir Maimon, Israeli ambassador in Lithuania.
